How Nutella is made

Processes of making the Nutella:

  1. Firstly, the cocoa powder is taken from the cocoa bean.
  2. The cocoa beans are roasted to make the cocoa bean into liquid form.
  3.  The liquid is then sent into presses where the butter is squeezed out of the cocoa bean which then forms circular discs of cocoa.
  4. Next is the hazelnuts. The hazel nuts are firstly inspected to ensure they are suitable for processing. They are then chopped, cleaned and roasted
  5. Next a blast of air blows the hazelnuts to ensure all of the bad ones are removed
  6. The cocoa powder is then mixed with the hazelnuts and the sugar, vanillin and skimmed milk are added also and it is all mixed together until it forms a spread. The palm oil and whey powder is added after this process
  7.  Vanillin is then added to enhance sweetness.
  8. The product is then packaged and shipped out.

How many countries contribute to a single jar of Nutella

Ingredients used to make Nutella are sourced from all over the world. The Ferrero International which is where they actually make the Nutella is in Italy but there are factories in Europe, Russia, North America and South America. The ingredients on the other hand, are imported from all over the world. The hazelnuts are shipped in from Turkey, the palm oil is from Malaysia, the cocoa is sourced from Nigeria, the sugar is from both Brazil and Europe and the vanilla flavouring is imported from France. So that is 6 countries in total needed to make just 1 jar of Nutella.
